Lake Sun sports editor offers brief insight into aftermath of KC shooting

Lake Sun Sports Editor Sam Kombrink, a Kansas City-area native and diehard Kansas City Chiefs fan, was at the parade Wednesday to celebrate the Chiefs’ back-to-back Super Bowl wins.
Our first instinct was to check on Sam’s safety immediately after we learned of the shooting, and he assured us was far away from the shooting location and he was fine.
He reports that as panic ensued after the gunshots, a brave citizen helped the Kansas City Police Department by apparently tackling one of the suspects believed to be the shooter. According to fans who had just fled to safety, they believed he was a possible shooter due to recognizing his clothing while trying to escape through the crowd before being tackled by citizens and apprehended by authorities.
Sam captured a picture of one of the citizens who helped stop one of the suspects. Another of sam’s photos notes the roof-top security near Union Station. Yet another shows a group of exuberant fans who found vantage points to watch not only the parade but also the festivities at Union Station before the shooting. The other photo shows the citizen speaking with a member of law enforcement.
