‘Hillbilly Hammer’ set to fight in BKFC 63

Local Gravois Mills bare knuckle boxer Sam “The Hillbilly Hammer” Shewmaker is set to fight Josh Burns at the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship 63 on August 3, held in Sturgis, South Dakota.

This is the second bout between these two heavyweights as The Hillbilly Hammer looks to avenge his September 10, 2021 loss to Burns at BKFC 21. 

Shewmaker, 40, weighs in at 6’2” and 238 pounds, with a reach of 76 inches and currently holds a pro bare knuckle record of (4-4-1 W-L-D). 

Burns, 46, weighs in at 5’10” and 264 pounds, with a reach of has a record of (6-8 W-L-D).

The Hillbilly Hammer is looking for his first bare knuckle boxing win since 2020, when he beat Bobo O’Bannon at BKFC 15 on Dec. 11, 2020. His last bare knuckle bout was at BKFC 27 on August 20, 2022 in London, England where he lost to Mick Terrill. Shewmaker fell to Joey Beltran at BKFC 18 on June 26, 2021.

His most recent bout was a gloved boxing match where he lost to the 'Russian Hammer,’ Dmitry Kudryashov on April 28, 2023. Shewmaker fell in round one by total knockout (1:34) and holds a gloved boxing record of (5-2 W-L-D).
