Fire service wasn’t even on new Rocky Mount Fire Protection District Chief Jon Trail’s radar his first year of college.
He was attending Highland Community College in Freeport, Ill. on a baseball scholarship as a catcher.
Trail wanted to be the best he could be at baseball. If that didn’t work out, he wanted to teach. “I knew I wanted to do something that would help people and I thought education would be the best way to do that,” he says. “You have the opportunity to grow people.”
