The Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Board of Directors convened for its regularly scheduled meeting on June 18 at the MSHSAA office in Columbia. The Board addressed a range of topics impacting member schools across the state.
Decisions affecting the playoffs in current sports included limited implementation of instant replay in football, a new format for the wrestling championships and rainout procedures for softball and baseball.
Beginning this season, instant replay will be implemented for Football Show-Me Bowl games only. The replay system is intended to correct obvious and potentially game-changing errors — not to re-officiate routine plays.
Effective with the 2026-27 school year, the Boys and Girls Wrestling Championships will be held on separate weekends, and both will be on the campus of the University of Missouri. The Girls Championships will be held first at Hearnes Center followed by the Boys Championships the next weekend at Mizzou Arena. Note the 2026 Championships will proceed under the current format.
The Board approved an amendment to the baseball and softball postseason procedures allowing for postseason games interrupted by weather to be played out to a full seven innings. Both teams can mutually agree to end the game earlier, as per the National Federation of State High School Associations’ end-of-game procedures.
Additionally, the Board approved a special ballot to respond to Senate Bill 63. Member schools will have the opportunity to vote from Aug. 11-22 on amending MSHSAA by-laws to ensure full compliance with the new state law, pending the governor’s signature. Senate Bill 63 has a provision that would allow students that are homeschooled or are in other nontraditional educational settings to participate in activities and athletics within the school district in which they reside.
The Board also voted to approve a pay increase for officials across all sports in the postseason, and certified the results of the 2025 Annual Ballot, which includes the recognition of Unified Track & Field and Girls Flag Football as emerging sports.
