The Indian Rock Golf Club located in Laurie has some of the most unique features of any of the Lake Area golf courses. The 18-hole course covers more than 300 acres in the heart of the Lake of the Ozarks, with four tee boxes providing golfers a choice of yardage on each hole. You will enjoy zoysia fairways and bentgrass greens as well as the course’s signature #17 hole, guarded by a majestic outcropping of rocks in the back of the hole and a deep, clear-water lake at the front. This par three is a challenge, hitting over the lake in the front to make it to the green in two strokes (or less), to then putt for par.
The Golf Shop Manager is Phil Kostelac and he has been at the course for three years after moving from Shawnee, Kan., to further his career in the golf industry. Kostelac noted that, “the original nine holes were built in 1986 with an additional nine holes being constructed in 1994, completing the 18-hole course.”
“One of the things that makes our course challenging is that the course is very narrow and it is very difficult to find a flat lie out there.” Phil added, “we have over 200 members that support the golf club tremendously and the entire community works together to promote the facility, which is unique.”
Kostelac pointed out that the most difficult hole on the course is number six, which is the number one handicap hole. “You have to hit your second shot over the water, to a nearly impossible green to putt on.” And the easiest hole? “Number 17 is supposed to be the easiest but in my opinion, it would really be number nine, only because there is no water in play like there is on number 17.”
Indian Rock has a slope rating of 121 from the most commonly used blue tee boxes with a par of 72 for the 18-hole course. Like most of the area courses they have a practice putting green but there is not a driving range and they do not offer lessons. However, there is a driving range located directly across the street that is owned by a separate entity. They do have a full-service restaurant and bar called “The Rock Bar and Grill” featuring everything from sandwiches and pizza, to dinner entrees and everything in-between. In fact, the menu has a little something for everyone!
The course also has nine-hole league play for couples on Monday evenings, which starts at 5 p.m. and on Tuesday mornings there is an 18-hole individual play Ladies League that starts at 8:30 a.m. Men’s League is on Wednesday mornings with 18-hole individual play beginning at 8 a.m. and rounding out the leagues is a Thursday evening, nine-hole, two-man scramble that starts at 5 p.m.
